Year 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

A warm welcome back to school from everyone in Year 2.

We hope everyone kept well and safe over the summer holidays and that you enjoyed some of the freedoms we are now allowed as restrictions are lifted.  We are sure you have kept yourselves busy, and had lots of fun in the summer sunshine.

The staff are all looking forward to meeting the children for another exciting year. We are sure pupils will return with a positive attitude and will settle back into the school routines. Our team have planned lots of fantastic topics this year. Please visit our curriculum maps to find out more.

When arriving at school we do ask that you arrive at the correct time and not before to prevent the gate area becoming crowded. Always leave promptly and please be considerate of others collecting their children.

Year 2 start time is 8:45. We have a soft start to the day and the register will be called at 8:55

Year 2 pickup time is 3:10 (please avoid turning up too early)

Communication with teachers and staff might be difficult at the school gate so we ask that if you have a question or a concern you email the year group email and staff will respond promptly.

Contact the year group email year2@sparrowfarm.hounslow.sch.uk

Year 2 will have PE on Monday and Thursday; children should come to school in their PE kits on these days. The days may change during the year depending on when PE coaches can work with the children.

General Reminders

  • All uniform and PE kit should be clearly labelled with the child’s name.
  • Year group Curriculum Information is now available on the school website
  • Look out for new Bug Club logins. Children can log on, read books and play games to support their reading. Teachers will be handing them out soon!
  • Homework – Reading books will be sent home in book bags. We expect children (supported by parents) to read with pupils at home.

Assessment and Tests

There are three main forms of assessment:

  • day to day formative assessment to inform teaching on an ongoing  basis
  • in school summative assessment to understand pupil performance at the end of a period of teaching
  • statutory summative assessment to understand pupil performance in relation to national expectations and comparisons

Statutory Summative Assessments for Year 2 are:

  • Phonics Screening Test at the of Year 2 (for pupils who did not pass the Screening Test in Year 1)
  • Teacher Assessments in Reading, Writing, Mathematics and
  • Year 2 Test in Reading, and Mathematics

For further information, please see the presentation that was given at a recent  parent workshop
