Reception
Dear Parents and Carers,
A warm welcome to everyone in Reception!
The Reception curriculum builds on children’s interests as they learn and explore, enabling them to develop their curiosity and a love of learning. We hope you will continue to work with us to enable your child to grow in confidence so they can become the best they can be.

The gates open at 8:40am. We have a soft start to the day and the register will be called at 8:50am. Children receive a free lunch at school and do not need to bring a packed lunch. School food can be ordered through our online system- please ask at the office if you are having difficulties with this.
Children will need to bring their own water bottle to school, which will be available to them throughout the day. Children are given fruit every morning at school so please do not send your child to school with food in their bag.
As part of learning and development in Reception, it is important that children engage in sensory and messy play. This helps to develop the children’s gross motor skills, fine motor skills, creativity and imagination. Children spend a lot of time outside so please ensure that they are in suitable clothing, including hats/ coats when necessary. Children can also have accidents/become wet during messy play so please keep a spare change of clothes in your child’s bag for when they need it. Please check your child’s bag at the end of every day and remove any items they will not need at school the next day, including art work, as their bags can easily become very heavy for them to carry! Please ensure that all of your child’s belongings, including their water bottle, are clearly labelled.
Communication with teachers and staff might be difficult at the at the start and end of the day so we ask that if you have a question or a concern you email the year group email and a member of staff will respond as soon as possible. The Reception email is : reception@sparrowfarm.hounslow.sch.uk
Homework expectations
Once the children have settled into school, we will be sending a reading book and reading record home with them. Please try to read with your child every day and make a note of this in their reading record; for example, comments about their reading or your initials.
Thank you
the Reception team
