Reception
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to our second Autumn half term! We hope you’ve had a restful break.
The children settled in well to their first term of reception. Thank you for your support during those first few weeks. For some children, this has been their first experience of being apart from their parents.
The children are now comfortable with the routines of reception and they have been learning lots during this time! The children have enjoyed starting phonics, maths, reading and writing. They have made huge progress and we are so proud of them. We will be holding some parent workshops this half term so that you can learn more about your child’s time in reception. We hope you will continue to work with us to enable your child to grow in confidence so they can become the best they can be.
Our topic this term will be Celebrations. We will be looking at a variety of celebrations and festivals from various cultures including Diwali, Christmas and birthdays. It would be great if you could bring in, or email, any photos from these celebrations at home for the children to share.

The school gates open at 8.40am. We have a soft start to the day and the register will be called at 8.50am. Pick up time is 3.20pm.
All children receive a free lunch at school and do not need to bring a packed lunch. School food can be ordered through our online system; please ask at the office if you are having difficulties with this.
Children should bring their own water bottle to school, which will be available to them throughout the day. A piece of fruit is provided every morning at school so please do not send your child to school with food in their bag.
The children spend a lot of time outside so please help to ensure that they are dressed in appropriate clothing, including hats/coats when necessary. Children can also have accidents or become wet during messy play, so you may wish to keep a spare change of uniform in your child’s bag. Please check your child’s bag at the end of every day and remove any items they will not need at school the next day, including art work, as their bags can easily become very heavy for them to carry! Finally, please ensure that all of your child’s belongings, including their water bottle, are clearly labelled.
Communication with teachers and staff might be difficult at the at the start of the day. If you have a question or a concern, it is easier for you to email us and staff will respond promptly. Alternatively, you can discuss any issues with your class teacher at our upcoming parent’s evening. The email is: reception@sparrowfarm.hounslow.sch.uk
Homework expectations: all children will bring a reading book and reading record home with them. The reading books are changed weekly so please keep your child’s book in their bag every day. We’ve seen that lots of children are reading at home and we thank you for your support in your child’s learning journey.
Thank you
